As part of the strategy to keep folks using its search service, Baidu launched its own mobile browser. With claims that it’s 20% faster than rival browsers, the company is looking to get up to 80% of Chinese Android users on board by the end of the year.

The strange (or that’s unique) thing is that the browser will come with access to apps, games and video without the need to download supporting software. It is thought to have been in beta mode since last summer.

However, it’s important to note that Baidu will face competition from other Chinese firms like UCWeb and Qihoo 360, as well as Google’s Chrome and the default Android browser.

In recent years, Baidu launched its own smartphone OS based on Android “Baidu Yu”, and has also worked with mobile operators and OEMs on Baidu-branded devices.
