During its announcement of Lumia 820 and Lumia 920, the Finnish company also demonstrated Nokia City Lens, its augmented reality app designed to help users discover interesting places nearby. Up until this point, it was available in beta and now everyone with the Lumia 710, Lumia 800 or Lumia 900 can try it out and discover cool places in their vicinity.
Nokia City Lens is touted to “turn sight” (camera viewfinder) into an interface for searching the world around you, while providing information about each building or landmark in the area, including restaurants, museums, shops and others places of interest.
In addition, Windows Phone 8 users — i.e. those who buy one of two new Nokia Lumia phones — will also get additional features such as 3D icons layout, ability to see (or not – depending on preferences) what’s hidden behind a building, and an option to pin to start any category tile, to find faster what you are looking for, anywhere you are. You can also customize the Nokia City Lens menu by adding your own favorite searches. Pretty cool.
