Apps economy to blame for half a million new jobs in the U.S.

Everyone and their mama are making apps these days so we were not surprised to learn that the “App Economy” has created more than 500,000 jobs in the US, and is therefore a “significant economic driver for a number of states.” The information comes from the research conducted by the Application Developers Alliance (ADA) and the CTIA, and has also found that it’s not just “renowned high-tech areas” like California and Washington that are benefiting from this trend, but also some “unexpected” states.

For instance, Virginia and Maryland have “close ties to government agencies and the military”, while Massachusetts was linked with apps targeting the higher-education segment.

Among the examples quoted in the report is the New York-based Applico, which hired its first employee in May 2010, and expects to have “as many as 150” staff by the end of the year. Pretty impressive when you think about it…
