If you own a Sony device dating back to last year, we have some good news and bad news for you. Well, for starters, Sony has finally given some clarity into how it’ll issue out Android 4.1 Jelly Bean updates to the Xperia T, Xperia TX and Xperia V. All devices are expected to receive upgrades sometime in the middle of the company’s first quarter. Sony assured those who bought a handset this year, the Jelly Bean update if their model is capable.

Now for the bad news. Any of you out there who happened to buy a Sony Xperia device last year, will be left. No 2011 Xperia handset will get an official upgrade to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean. However, we’re sure the unbelievable developers in the Android community will bake-up a few ROMs — if you’re not opposed to rooting your device.

In related news, Sony is rumored to be launching a beastly Android phone that carries a 5-inch 1080p screen, 2GB of RAM, and powered by a quad-core processor, with the code name ‘Odin’.  Japan Display — which is a joint venture between Sony, Toshiba and Hitachi — is said to be behind the massive 5-inch screen, so it’s not out of the realm for one of the founding members to be the first client. This device is speculated for an early 2013 launch. If the rumor has any truth to it, chances are we’ll see this device at CES 2013. But until then, we’ll just have to wait for more information to leak out for proof of its existence.
