Google Free Zone launches in the Philippines, offering free mobile access to Google+, Google Search and GMail

Google is trialing a new service dubbed Google Free Zone in the Philippines, offering users free access to select services, including Google+, Google Search and GMail. Google Search is especially interesting as it allows users to not only search the web but also visit any page from the search results for free. However, once they click on another page, they will be charged regular data fee, provided that the charge is accept (a popup will appear asking for confirmation).

It’s an interesting idea and if you remember Facebook is already doing something similar, teaming up with carriers all around the world to provide users with free access to the social network.

Google’s “partner in crime” is the local carrier Globe, and it’s likely that this service will expand to other parts of the world before we know it. This is the fight for the “next billion users” and it’s safe to bet the search giant wants to win it…
