Apple is firing on all cylinders recently. Having just announced that the company has met its self-imposed goal of selling 10 million iPhone and iPhone 3G handsets before the end of the 2008 calendar year, Apple is now the 8th largest mobile phone manufacturer in the world. A new report from ABI Research has the iPhone and iPhone 3G accounting for 1.1% of the global mobile phone market.
Apple had set its sights on moving 10 million iPhones in 2008 and capturing a solid 1% of the global handset market. With this latest market research confirming more than 1% market share for the iPhone platform, it seems Apple has fully satisfied its goals for iPhone sales.
With rumors of a new iPhone coming down Apple’s product pipeline, the iPhone maker is expected to do well in 2009. But, with a booming 2008 behind them and a dwindling global economy continuing to loom overhead, Apple may have to make do with lesser financial numbers in 2009.
