Verizon CEO Lowell McAdam talked to the Wall Street Journal about the company’s plans to install FiOS in regions battered by Hurricane Sandy. In this interview, McAdam also addressed Verizon Wireless and said the business was doing well in the current quarter. Sales were robust over the Thanksgiving holiday and a growing number of customers added tablets onto their wireless accounts.
The CEO brushed off concerns that a Softbank-led Sprint will shake up the US wireless market by lowering its prices, a strategy that was successful for Softbank in Japan. “We’ve seen low price providers come and go over the years. And so, we’re not going to be adjusting our game,” McAdam said.
McAdam also talked up Verizon’s 4G network, reminding readers that the carrier has a healthy head start over its competitors. Verizon’s 4G LTE network cover more than 250 million people in more than 440 markets throughout the US. It plans to blanket its entire 3G network with 4G LTE by the end of 2013.
