During the Kindle 2 press conference yesterday, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos hinted that in the future, their e-books would also be readable on other mobile devices. There are plenty of good things about reading electronic books, newspapers and other text on the Kindle (namely the super low-contrast screen and built-in wireless capabilities that don’t require a monthly charge), but the sad fact is that only heavy-duty readers will go as far as shelling out $359 for a dedicated device. Branching off to, say, mobile phones, would open up the bountiful Amazon market to a much wider audience without requiring that hefty initial investment. While no definite timeline was given, Amazon was “excited” at the possibility. I’ve only really done any amount of reading on the BlackBerry is through DailyLit, and it wasn’t terrible if the font size was cranked up. What do you guys think – is it pheasible to read a whole book on your phone?
