Latest Windows Mobile 6.5 screenshots confirm Outlook Live, Marketplace, and My Phone branding

windows-mobile-65-my-phone-screenshotJust yesterday, Microsoft re-branded their SkyBox phone data-synchronization service as “My Phone.” Today, we see the cloud-sync service hanging out with the other WinMo applications in the latest Windows Mobile 6.5 screenshot leak.

Most impressive in the new screenshots is the refreshed Windows Media Player UI. With a more finger-friendly interface, the new WM Player should bring WM6.5 up to speed with the touchy-feely, media-playing heavyweights from the Symbian and iPhone camps.

As for the rest of the applications leaked in this set of screenshots, take a gander at Outlook Live. It’s unclear exactly what Outlook Live is, but if we were the betting type (and, actually, we are) we’d put our money on Outlook Live picking up where “Sky Line” left off. As you’ll probably recall, “Sky Line” was positioned as the enterprise-flavored variant of the “Sky Box” service that, as is mentioned above, has been rebranded as “My Phone.”windows-mobile-media-player-screenshot

Speaking of which, the My Phone service is clearly visible in these latest WinMo6.5 screenshots. The Microsoft My Phone service is expected to synchronize calendar events, contacts, settings with the “cloud,” and will even allow for over-the-air backup and restore of the your Windows Mobile 6.5 smartphone. Unfortunately, My Phone stops short of synchronizing emails between the WinMo handset and the cloud – which is where we’d guess Outlook Live comes in.

Sky Market, Microsoft’s upcoming Windows Mobile applications store, shows itself as a “Marketplace” application. Microsoft’s Sky-based naming convention made a lot of sense – it provided a unified brand for mobile services. Unfortunately, it seems Microsoft isn’t all that attached to the idea of a cohesive mobile-services brand.

Sky Box is now My Phone. Sky Market is now Marketplace. And Sky Line is now Outlook Live. Savvy?

Now we just wait for Microsoft to go official with WM6.5 at MWC!
