Sprint readying Samsung Instinct Mini?

sprint-logoSprint must really be busy readying new hardware, what with their continued delays in getting the Sprint Palm Treo Pro out to the waiting public. One of the new pieces of hardware rumored for Sprint’s 2009 lineup is smaller, thinner variant of Sprint’s most-popular smartphone, the Samsung Instinct.

The original Sprint Samsung Instinct has the distinct honor of being the most heavily sold smartphone ever to grace Best Buy’s shelves, breaking Sprint’s own sales records. So, it’s not too surprising to hear that Sprint is working on a follow-up to the Sprint Instinct that should help Sprint penetrate an even wider demographic.

Word on the street is that the Sprint Instinct Mini will be launching on April 19 as an addition to the Sprint Instinct. Like the oft-rumored iPhone Nano, the Sprint Samsung Instinct Mini is intended to complement its bigger-sibling with an alternative form-factor, rather than replacing it entirely. Unfortunately, like most “mini” variants, the Instinct Mini will have to make do with a lesser feature-set – like EVDO Rev. 0 (no 3G).

And, to sprinkle just a bit more speculation onto this rumor, remember that Sprint is expected to launch an Android-powered Samsung smartphone.

Pricing is still unknown (as are a lot of other details), but expect the Sprint Instinct Mini to come in at a lower price-point than the Sprint Instinct, in your choice of Copper or Graphite.
