Samsung is apparently working on a successor to its rugged Android smartphone, Galaxy XCover, with such a device probably launching at the upcoming Mobile World Congress. We don’t have all the details yet, but we do know few things. For instance, it will look differently, making it feel like a tougher version of the Galaxy S III mini. Specs will also be comparable (to Galaxy S III mini) and include such things as a 4-inch WVGA screen, 5-megapixel rear-camera, VGA front-facing one, 1,700mAh battery, 4GB of built-in storage and a microSD memory card slot. These are not the high-end specs by today’s standards, but rugged smartphones are known for their mid-range “qualities,” offering reliability rather than latest bells and whistles.

The original XCover was IP67-certified for being dirt, dust and water resistant, and we’d expect nothing less for the follow up. We’ll let you know when Galaxy XCover 2 officially launches. Stay tuned in the meantime…
