Temple Run 2 tops 20 million downloads in just four days

The sequel to one of the most popular games of all time for iOS and Android, Temple Run, is already receiving massive success after debuting in the iOS App Store just a few days ago. Temple Run 2 passed 20 million downloads in four days of availability.

It brought in six million of those downloads within the first 24 hours, and since six million is only slightly higher than one-forth, the number of downloads in the days to follow didn’t slow down much at all. It also didn’t take much time for Temple Run 2 to quickly rise up to the number one top free app in the App Store after its launch, a position that it still currently holds and I suspect will hold for a bit longer.

20 million downloads in four days makes Temple Run 2 one of the most successful app releases ever on iOS. By comparison, Angry Birds Space garnered 10 million downloads in three days and Google Maps captured 10 million in just 48 hours. The original Temple Run so far has 170 million downloads.  Keith Shepherd, co-founder of Imangi Studios, the company behind Temple Run, said in an Apple press release that Temple Run received 75 million downloads on iOS alone throughout all of 2012. Temple Run 2 managed to match almost one-third of that in four days.

Android will likely give the game an additional download boost too. Temple Run 2 is expected to land in Google Play some time next week. Meanwhile, you can grab it for free for iPhone and iPad in the App Store.
