Nokia announced its quarterly earnings for Q4 2012, and the company delivered a solid year-ending performance. After six consecutive quarterly losses, Nokia finally turned a profit and sold more than 15 million smartphones this quarter.

Nokia reported an operating profit of 439 million euros ($584 million) and net sales of 8.041 billion euros ($10.7 billion). This compares favorably to Q3 2012, which saw an operating loss of 576 million euros ($754 million) on $754 million euros ($9.49 billion) in net sales. Nokia ended Q4 with net cash of 4.4 billion euros ($5.86 billion), up from the 3.4 billion euros ($4.53 billion) reported in the third quarter of 2012.

Nokia sold 15.9 million smartphones in the quarter, including 9.3 million Asha smartphones, 4.4 million Lumia devices and 2.2 million Symbian handsets. With a solid quarter and exciting new handsets on the horizon, including a new PureView Windows 8 smartphone expected to debut at MWC next month, Nokia is now stabilized for the moment and no longer on a death watch.
