ASUS rumored to be working on new Google Nexus 7 tablet

Asus is rumored to be working on a successor to the wildly popular Google Nexus 7 tablet. This latest rumor is coming from a report from the Taiwanese site DigiTimes, which isn’t always on point with their reports.

However, in this case the site says that an ASUS-built Nexus 7 successor will feature a “full HD” 1080p display, thinner bezel and the same attractive $199-249 price point. “Several specifications” will also be upgraded, DigiTimes says, though no specifics were given. What’s also interesting is the site’s source claims the total number of Nexus 7 tablets shipped is sitting around six million as of the end of January. It’s not Apple numbers, but for Android tablets it’s great.

This rumor is a bit more believable considering the success the first Nexus 7 had. It makes perfect sense for Google not to veer away from ASUS — if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The two companies seem to have a good chemistry when it comes to the design elements. A slight redesign and spec bump, should serve well for the next 7-inch installment.

But like all rumors, we shouldn’t jump the gun here until we see and hear something more concrete.
