Today Nokia announced two partnership agreements. The first of the two involves Qualcomm, along with whom the Finnish giant will work together to develop “advanced UMTS mobile devices,” initially for North America. The idea is to use Nokia’s S60 platform and leverage Qualcomm’s advanced Mobile Station Modem MSM7xxx-series and MSM8xxx-series chipsets for “cutting-edge processing performance and ubiquitous mobile broadband capabilities.” The first devices based on this collaboration are expected to launch in mid-2010 and be compatible with the forthcoming Symbian Foundation platform.
In second partnership news, Nokia announced that it is extending its existing 2G relationship with Broadcom, making the semiconductor company a next generation 3G baseband, radio frequency and mixed signal chipset system supplier for worldwide markets.
