It wasn’t too long ago that we gave you a glimpse of Koush’s backup application, Carbon. When we first went hands on with the application, some features were missing and one needed to be rooted to use it. Starting today, that’s no longer the case.
Carbon has been released into the Google Play Store in both ad-supported and premium versions. The ad-free version of the app will set you back $4.99, so if you’re not sure if you want to throw that much money at a backup application, then you might want to try the free ad-supported version first. That said, the premium version will give you access to features like backups in the cloud and Android to Android sync, which is pretty nifty if you want to keep your apps between your phone and tablet synced up.
Carbon does some pretty great things, like allow you to backup your applications to Google Drive or DropBox in the cloud, onto your computer, and of course, onto your device. If your Android phone is rooted, all you need to do is download the application and you’ll be good to go. If you’re not rooted, you just need to download the computer client in addition to the app to sync your backups to your laptop or desktop.
Carbon currently is not available for Motorola phones due to a bug that breaks Android’s backup mechanism. If you’re rocking a Motorola handset at the moment, you might want to hold off for now.
If you’re looking for a simple, all in one app backup solution, you should definitely check out Carbon. It might be your go-to back up application from now on.
