Rugged Galaxy Xcover 2 Coming to UK in March

Samsung officially announced its new Galaxy Xcover 2 S7710 last week,but failed to provide any information pertaining to a release date or availability. Today, Samsung UK has announced that their rugged IP67-certified water and dust resistant smartphone is coming to the UK by March.

The Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2 has some impressive specs for a smartphone of its type, a 4 inch WVGA display, HSPA (up to 14.4 Mbps), Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, A-GPS with Glonass, Music Player with SoundAlive, Bluetooth 4.0, 5MP rear camera with 720p video recording and LED flash, VGA front-facing camera, dual-core 1GHz processor, 1GB of RAM, 4GB of internal memory, and MicroSD card support (up to 32GB).

Although Samsung UK has stated that the Galaxy Xcover 2 will be available in the UK in March, pricing is still elusive. The only UK retailer that’s listing the Xcover 2 at the moment is Expansys, but no price for the unit is shown.

SAMSUNG ANNOUNCES THE GALAXY XCOVER 2

A durable device with essential smartphone capabilities

31st January 2013, London, UK – Samsung Electronics today unveiled the Galaxy Xcover 2, the ideal smartphone for active explorers who enjoy outdoor lifestyles and want a durable mobile device with essential smartphone capabilities.

The Galaxy Xcover 2 is designed to endure the most rugged outdoor conditions, whether it’s used for work or play. Protected against the elements, it is dust and sand proof and even water resistant to a depth of one metre for up to 30 minutes (IP67 Certified). Owners of the Galaxy Xcover 2 can now take photos under water with the direct camera key and ensure the device is kept safe with its strap holder. The handset’s battery cover lock gives added protection so there’s no need for customers to worry about dropping their phone.

The device comes pre-downloaded with Google Maps data, an enhanced GPS + GLONASS which shortens the satellite signal detection by up to 20% to track each customer’s location more accurately. An LED Flash next to the camera can be used as a torch, and with a battery capacity of 570 hours (1,700mAh), the Galaxy Xcover 2 is the best possible smartphone for people wanting to explore the great outdoors.

In addition, the Cardio Trainer Pro workout application can be used to help achieve individual’s fitness goals by creating a tailored training program, checking their progress and recording their track and speed.

Customers can expect the powerful performance characteristic of a Samsung smartphone with the Galaxy Xcover 2 shell. Its vivid 4.0” (100.8mm) WVGA display provides a clear and wide viewing experience and a 5-megapixel camera and VGA front camera allows precious moments to be recorded in high resolution. With Bluetooth® v 4.0, the Galaxy Xcover 2 gives a better connection that consumes less power and detects devices 50 metres away. An impressive 1GHz dual core processor powers the core of the Galaxy Xcover 2, which ensures a fast operating speed for seamless multitasking, faster webpage loading and softer UI transitions.
Samsung Galaxy Xcover 2 runs on Android™ 4.1 (Jelly Bean) enabling faster and smoother screen transitions and providing an enhanced user interface, featuring a new, easy-to-use notification panel. As a premium Samsung Android™ phone, the device is packed with innovative features and services to boost performance and the overall user experience.

The intuitive Motion UI understands peoples’ movements and has the ability to overturn and mute incoming calls. Data can be synced, backed up and restored with S-Cloud; S Voice lets customers control the phone using their voice, allowing them to see the weekly weather forecast, the contact number they are trying to find or even take a picture as they speak. Best Shot recommends the best shot taken on the device from a series of photos; Smart Stay recognises whether the customer is looking at the screen to dim the screen accordingly. Customers can also enjoy all the benefits of Samsung Hubs, including the latest versions of Readers Hub, Video Hub, Game Hub and Music Hub.

The Galaxy Xcover 2 will be available to purchase in the UK by March.
