We’ve already heard that LG is working on its own chips but we have yet to see them officially announcing anything on that front. According to a new report from the Korea Times, the company is pretty much in the final phase of development and will unveil the first device with own-designed chip, Optimus G2, at IFA, taking place in Berlin this September.
LG Electronics is going to mass-produce the Odin processors by using finer 28-nanometer level processing, applying high-k metal gate (HKMG) technology. The processors will be used in LG’s next flagship Optimus smartphone – the Optimus GII – which will probably be unveiled in this fall’s IFA trade fair.
It is said that just like Samsung’s Exynos 5 Octa, LG will use ARM’s big.LITTLE architecture that relies on both Cortex A15 and A7 cores with former taking care of high-end stuff, leaving the basic phone functions to the latter. As a result, users get both power and efficiency as mundane tasks are handled by battery friendly Cortex A7 cores.
And while we wait for the Optimus G2, we’ll be perfectly happy to play with LG’s Optimus G Pro, as well as the new L and F series devices announced just before Mobile World Congress…
