Rumor: HTC One to be Delayed Due to Component Shortage?

It seems HTC just can’t catch a break these days. According to industrial sources, HTC’s flagship HTC One device may be delayed, as some critical hardware components are in short supply. Because of the shortage of the voice coil motor and the camera module, the HTC One may only be shipping 800,000 to 1,200,000 One handsets over the next couple of months.

The HTC One is slated to roll out in the U.S. on March 15th, but due to this delay, customers may not be able to get their hands on the One until May. HTC has focused its efforts on penetrating the U.S. market, releasing the One in the States before other markets. If the One experiences problems in the U.S., it could bode very badly for other markets around the globe.

HTC’s most recent financial results paint a grim picture for the manufacturer, with HTC seeing its share of the global smartphone market dropping to 4.6 percent in Q4 2012 as opposed to 10.3 percent from Q3 2012. WIth Samsung’s share of the market rising, and with Apple still retaining its fair share, HTC is standing on shaky ground.

With the upcoming release of the Samsung Galaxy S IV and the BlackBerry Z10, HTC needs to get it together, and soon. Although the HTC One is a solid handset and has garnered much attention, if fans can’t get their hands on the unit they may seek their new phone fix from elsewhere.
