The Samsung Galaxy S4 was officially unveiled yesterday in New York, touting with it a an impressive spec sheet and a boatload of custom software. According to PCMag, some of the software features will eventually make their way to the Samsung Galaxy S3, such as AirView and some of the advanced camera filters.

“Anything that we can do that’s not dependent on hardware like infrared, we’ll definitely bring to all the flagship devices,” Samsung’s Vice President of portfolio planning, Nick DiCarlo told PCMag.

Due to hardware limitations on the Samsung Galaxy S3, a few things will not make it to the unit, such as the WatchON feature that utilizes the Galaxy S 4’s IR blaster to turn the device in to a home theater remote, and Air View which relies on new screen technology in the unit.

Pretty much all the camera features could possibly work on the Galaxy S3, such as the Dual Camera function which allows simultaneous picture capture by using the front and rear cameras, creating a picture in picture effect. Users can also capture sound while taking a picture, combining the two together, as well as many filter options and a montage effect.

We’ll have to wait and see what features make their way to the Galaxy S3, and this is great news for Galaxy S3 owners as well as prospective S3 customers. The prices of the Galaxy S3 will undoubtedly drop, allowing customers to get their hands on a powerful device for a good price, with all the bells and whistles of the Galaxy S 4’s software.

So if you’re thinking about grabbing the Galaxy S 4, you might want to wait for a while to see how the Galaxy S3 upgrades develop, it might just save you a little bit of cash.
