BlackBerry Z10 scores high for its fixability

Those out there thinking of getting the newly released BlackBerry Z10 can breathe a little easier after the latest iFixit report. The repair company gave high scores for the Z10, giving the device an 8 out of 10 on its scale of repairability. iFixit mentioned that this high rating is a rarity in today’s market.

Any kind of positive press for BlackBerry is encouraging at this point, as the Waterloo company just released the Z10 on AT&T. The company also expects to launch the Z10 on T-Mobile and Verizon later this week. Many reports have circled around on the net on how the troubled company is struggling to gain appeal in the market, especially up against the likes of Android and iOS devices.

As for how the breakdown went, iFixit gave praise to how simple it was to disassemble the phone. The repair firm was also pleased that BlackBerry opted to stay with a removable battery and not follow the trend of a closed body. Moreover, the company noted that there was no adhesive holding down the motherboard, and that components such as the camera came off the motherboard easily.

Of course, the phone is prone to disaster once it’s dropped from a certain height — say, ear level. However iFixit ended its report by saying, “The BlackBerry Z10 is proof that smartphones can be thin, easily-repairable, and have replaceable batteries.”

That being said, a glowing report like this is great but we’re not sure how this will translate into more sales, which is an issue BlackBerry now has.
