Canada's Rogers Wireless unveils new roaming package for travel to the U.S. - $7.99 gives you 50MB

Canadian mobile operator Rogers Wireless unveiled a new package for folks frequently travelling to the United States. For just $7.99 they can get 50MB of data, which according to the carrier is “nearly twice the data a Rogers wireless customer would typically use per day while in Canada.”

We’re not sure about that, but I guess if you limit your mobile Internet time to email and occasional cyber-schmoozing on Facebook, you’re good to go.

In comparison, Rogers’ major rivals offer much worse deals:

  • TELUS gives you 25 or 100 MB for $20 and $40 respectively, while overages cost $1/MB.
  • Bell offers a renewable $40/100MB plan with $0.40/MB overage.
  • WIND Mobile firmly stands at $1 per MB, while Mobilicity charges $1.50 for the same amount of data.

So if you do need this kind of data roaming, check out this Rogers’ tariff. Or get another phone and use it with T-Mobile USA’s $3/200MB plan and keep watching movies while on the run. 😉
