Sony Xperia Z launching on a US carrier in “coming weeks”; Is it T-Mobile?

At the moment Sony is only selling the Xperia ZL in the U.S. and it is available in its unlocked form, requiring no carrier contracts whatsoever. That, however, comes with a price not everyone is willing to pay.

Things could change quickly with the company’s Kaz Hirai and Phil Molyneux saying that the “announcement about the Xperia Z with a carrier” will be out “very shortly.” Molyneux later added that this announcement will be made “within the coming weeks.”

No names were given but “cues from the past” suggest that the Japanese company may launch its flagship smartphone through T-Mobile. In fact, the T-Mobile-compatible Xperia Z has already cleared the FCC and we tend to think it’s now pretty much ready for the U.S. launch. Guess it’s all about the timing now…

What makes the Sony Xperia Z different from all other high-end smartphones is its dust-proof and water-resistant body. On the downside though, it doesn’t pack the latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 chip but a slower Snapdragon S4 Pro. Rest of the specs include a 5-inch full HD screen, 3G/4G + Wi-Fi connectivity, 13-megapixel camera, and so on and on.

We should get more details soon; stay tuned…
