Odin Mobile is a new kind of service, one that brings mobile technology to those who haven’t been able to use it before. Running as a virtual operator (MVNO) on T-Mobile’s network, Odin launches as America’s first mobile service for the visually impaired.

Beginning in July, this network will offer “comprehensive cell phone service,” including innovative accessible handsets, rate plans for every budget, as well as a proper customer service experience with specially trained staff.

Among devices Odin will offer is the RAY, which comes with a unique user interface built from the ground up for eye-free operation. This phone offers users a range of capabilities, such as calling and SMS, contact list services, calendar, GPS, advanced web remote assistance, voice recorder, emergency services, access to audio content (newspapers, magazines and audio books) and more.

In addition, more basic phones made by Emporia will also be offered for those who simply want to make calls and text message.

And that’s not all – as part of the pledge to support its (potential) customers, Odin Mobile will also donate 2% of its voice and text revenue to organizations dedicated to serving the needs of the visually impaired. Very nice!
