We’ve heard various rumors about Google’s revamped Nexus 7, and a new one comes today from DigiTimes that claims the second-generation Nexus 7 will be arriving in July. If the device does in fact ship in July, it will not be coming with a new version of Android, with Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie once again tipped for an October release.
The second-generation Nexus 7 will reportedly be touting a screen resolution of 1920 x 1200p, a thinner bezel and a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor instead of NVIDIA’s Tegra 3. The tablet may also come with a 5MP rear-facing camera and support for Qi wireless charging.
Interestingly enough, DigiTimes is claiming that the 16GB version of the second-generation Nexus 7 will come with a pricetag of $229, instead of the previously rumored $199 price point. The report claims,
“As first-tier brand vendors have been trying to expand their sales through price cuts, Google is not looking to follow suit, but will instead focus on defending the US$199-249 segment of the 7-inch tablet market and target competitors such as Amazon and Apple.”
We will see in July what Google’s pricing plans for the device are, as price drops for the first-generation Nexus 7 have been rumored to be lowered once the new version of the tablet is released.
