If you live in Europe or have spent time there, you know just how expensive it can be to use a cellphone while travelling across the continent. Roaming fees are high in the EU, with most telecoms charging absorbent rates for service once a user has traveled outside of his home country. The group of 27 European Commissioners have voted to end roaming fees across Europe, by creating a single European telecom market as opposed the fragmented one that exists today. The EU proposal will come into play as soon as July 1st, 2014.

Officials will be hard at work over the next six weeks to come up with detailed plans and proposals for the initiative, with the EU proposal coming into play as soon as July 1st, 2014.

The package will end the astronomically high premiums charged for roaming, making the lives of Europeans and travelers a little easier and a lot more inexpensive.
