Skype is celebrating a milestone achievement today, announcing that its Skype for Android app has been installed on over 100 million Android phones worldwide. To celebrate, Skype has released version 4.0 of Skype for Android.

“Last week we discussed how Skype’s Mobile Future demands a modern design that puts conversations first, focuses on quality & performance, and delivers a common set of experiences across multiple platforms and devices. Today, we’re excited to deliver in two of those areas with the all-new Skype for Android 4.0.”

With Skype 4.0, the Skype team wanted to deliver a fast and clean-looking app for its 100 million Android users. The app has been completely redesigned, with recent conversations listed when the app is launched, which can be tapped to create a reply. Tapping or swiping over the Contacts or Favorites tab will pull up a messaging window where a video or voice call can be initiated with ease. The team focused on stability and performance to deliver an update that is more than just a visual redesign.

So Android Skype users, look for this update to hit your device soon. The Skype team promises even more updates coming in the future, so keep your eyes peeled.
