Pantech’s WiFi-enabled WPP-8000 phone launched in Korea

Pantech WPP-8000

Today we’re presenting you with yet another Pantech’s device which you probably won’t see around in the Western hemisphere. It’s the WPP-8000 and it’s not a regular phone. Launched through LG Dacom, this simple looking candybar doesn’t rely on standard cellular networks (like GSM or CDMA) — rather it works through wireless LAN using the carrier’s iHub service. As a result, users can access latest news and other information without extra data charges.

It’s also important to add that despite the fact it’s a WiFi phone, the Pantech WPP-8000 can display standard information on its small screen such as caller ID and can be also used for text messaging. Think of it as an experimental device, and if proves successful, Pantech will make more of these…
