LG G2 Officially Announced with 5.2-inch display, backside controls

The LG G2 has officially been unveiled, and it’s both a beauty and a beast. The handset has been leaked for the past few weeks, but now it’s finally official.

The LG G2 boasts a gorgeous 5.2 inch 1080p HD IPS+ display, 2.26GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 CPU, 2GB RAM, 13-megapixel rear camera with optical image stabilization, a 3,000mAh battery, and either 16 or 32GB of internal storage.

Unlike its predecessor, the G2 is void of capacitive buttons and LG opted to go for on-screen navigation. We’re big fans of the on-screen navigation method, and given that the display is half an inch larger than the original, users won’t feel like they are losing any screen real estate with the G2’s on-screen keys.

Just by looking at the device, you can tell LG wanted to bring something unique to the table. By placing the volume rocker and power button on the back of the device, which is something we have yet to see before — outside of the leaks.

The G2 ships with a revamped user interface that is easy on the eyes without being over-customized. In fact, we’d say that the G2’s software looks much more like stock Android than what we saw on the original Optimus G. Of course, there are a lot of nifty tricks that LG has thrown into the handset, and cool features like Q Slide and Q Memo can still be found here.

We really liked the Optimus G last year, and LG’s successor looks to be the next-gen home run it was looking for. The LG G2 will be available on T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T and Verizon with launch details coming soon.
