Samsung has officially announced an Android-based flip-phone, Samsung Hennessy (W789), in China. The unique device comes with solid specs that include a pair of 3.3-inch HVGA (320×480) touchscreen, 1.2GHz quad-core processor, 5-megapixel camera on the back, and a 1,500mAh battery, while Android 4.1 Jelly Bean is running the show. There’s also a dual-SIM support, allowing folks to use it on both CDMA and GSM networks.

Of course, we’re still not sure whether this phone will ever make it to the Western hemisphere. I’m sure there are users who like the (clamshell) form factor and in that sense, we would expect the Korean company to be able to move quite a few units in Europe and the Americas. Those, however, are just our observations since Samsung probably has its own figures and forecasts; and judging by their performance from the last few years – they seem to know what they’re doing… Meanwhile, we’ll have to “settle” with another sort of Hennessy. 😉
