Man Caught Smuggling iPhones Into China, 66 Units Strapped to Body

Smuggling iPhones into mainland China is a big business, and a man was recently caught at the border crossing between Hong Kong and Shenzhen with 66 iPhones strapped to his body. iPhones are available in China, but because of taxes and restrictions the units carry a higher price tag than those in nearby Hong Kong. Although Hong Kong is officially a part of China, the island is considered a ‘special administrative region’ which renders electronics cheaper than on the mainland.

The man pictured below was caught at the Luohu border crossing between Hong Kong and Shenzhen, which is proving to be a popular smuggling route for those who look to bring electronics onto the mainland. The man was searched after catching the attention of border patrol, who observed the man trying to avoid customs officials, and walking very stiffly the whole time. The man was carrying nothing but a plastic bag, but after a quick search customs officials found 66 iPhones strapped to his body.

Just a mere 5 minutes after this man was apprehended, customs officials snagged another person trying the same tactic, but with only 16 iPhones strapped to his person, as well as four other travelers with devices as well.
