The long-time rumored Huawei Ascend W2 has started selling in China where it is available for 999 Yuan, an equivalent of $163. At that price and considering the large local audience, the Chinese handset maker has a chance to make the W2 one of the best selling Windows Phones, ever.
Specs wise, we’re talking about a mid-end device that comes with a 4.3-inch WVGA IPS display, 1.4GHz dual-core processor, 3G connectivity, 5-megapixel camera, and 8GB of expandable storage. Yeah, it’s not exactly a mobile power-house, but then again – it does deliver a solid bang for the buck.
Elsewhere, Nokia had some success with its low-end Lumia 520 model, which below-$200 price point helped it move quite a few units.
We like seeing Microsoft advancing in the smartphone market but we will be even more delighted when the first Windows Phone with quad-core processor and full HD screen launches. And that should happen later this year…
