At the end of last year we’ve first told you about the YotaPhone. It was (and still is) a unique device with a regular screen on one side and an e-ink based display on the other side. That e-ink part, in case you wonder, is added to display notifications and other data that doesn’t change that often.
The good news is that it’s finally launching in November. That, at least, is the time when users in Russia will be able to buy one of these; as for the rest of us – that’s still unclear. As far as we know, this thing could never hit the store shelves in the West. And that would be a shame cause we don’t get to see such unique devices every day.
While I’m not sure that extra screen will have real use, I like having more options. And I’m sure smart developers could make apps that take advantage of that e-ink display, periodically updating us with relevant information like weather and traffic conditions, upcoming appointments and so on.
Yota is currently accepting pre-orders though the site doesn’t list a shipping date. Hopefully that information will be added shortly…
