Instead of simply recycling old BlackBerrys, New York-based Michael McHale Designs is doing something better with them, using the no-longer-used devices to “make something beautiful.” The company is making a limited series of chandeliers made out of CrackBerries.

McHale is looking to get as many unwanted BlackBerry devices as possible to repurpose them into a chandelier that will have a “romantic feel” to it. “This was a design that was almost fetishized a few years ago. It was an artifact that was wasting away in people’s drawers… The trackball almost seemed to be an erogenous zone, so I replaced it with a bright red jewel… I wanted to accent the fact that it was a very special part of the BlackBerry.”

These chandeliers could come with a hefty price tag, with prices ranging from $167 to $15,000 depending on the materials used. The picture you can see above represents the Ozymandias Chandelier which “won’t be cheap.”

We love the idea and are wondering whether something similar could be made out of some other devices, like the original Android smartphone (HTC G1) and the first iPhone, to make a chandelier for every platform fan…
