Gran Turismo 6 is coming next month for the PS3, and it’s looking great. A new update on the game’s website hints at a very cool feature with its mobile tie-in app. The app will allow you to make your own tracks from the real world!

Publisher Polyphony Digital updated the site recently with lots of info about the exhaustive features of the upcoming racing game. Buried in the lists, is a feature called Course Maker that’s very interesting indeed. The app will allow you to create custom tracks on your mobile device. In a future update Polyphony “will add the possibility to generate a track by capturing the GPS coordinate data of a mobile app while you are driving that course. This GPS-generated tracks will be available in the game as playable content.”

Gran Turismo 6 releases for the Playstation 3 on December 6. The website snuck the news in with an update. It doesn’t reveal a lot of specifics but it sounds very cool. Check it out below:

Course Maker
This feature, available at a later stage through an update, will allow you to create your own custom tracks that can be driven in the game. Additionally, in another update we will add the possibility to generate a track by capturing the GPS coordinate data of a mobile app while you are driving that course. This GPS-generated tracks will be available in the game as playable content.

Crossover apps are getting better and better with new generations of gaming. Xbox Smart Glass is adding all kinds of nifty functionality to Microsoft’s current and future consoles. Recently Beyond: Two Souls allowed for full control of the game with its mobile app. This kind of functionality is very cool, and we can’t wait to see what it looks like when the app drops.

It’s probably too much to ask, but if this app uses map data or something to create courses, it would be incredible! I think that might not be realistic for this generation, but we’ll see…
