Gogo unveiled its new Text & Talk technology to allow airline passengers to send text messages and make phone calls using their own smartphone much like they do on the ground.

To utilize the new service, passengers need to download an app — available for iOS and Android devices — and then text and talk as much as they want to. Actually, the second part may be prohibited by some airlines which is kinda justified… cause not all of us want to listen to other people talking over the phone while flying.

Gogo’s press release goes on to say that the Text & Talk application serves as an extension of a GSM or CDMA cellular network, and works without requiring airlines to install picocells within planes. These picocells, for those who don’t know, are small cellular stations that are often installed on planes to deliver similar services. As a result, airlines can simply enable this capability without any extra cost.

So are you looking to this capability on your flight or not?
