As part of its plan to continue ruling the world, Samsung plans to accelerate outsourcing smartphone production for mid- and low-end devices to Chinese subcontractors. This apparently cuts down the cost while making room for production of high-end (and high-margin) models in its own factories.
The Korean company will keep making some lower-end devices in its facilities in places like China, Vietnam and India; it just wants to be ready for an ever-increasing demand for its products.
Samsung’s most successful outsourced smartphone to date is the Galaxy Trend Duos, which production exceeded 10 million units. This particular model was made by Zhonghuan Telecommunication, a joint-venture created by Samsung in Tianjin.
So, going forward, we expect to see a number of models made by third parties that make similar phones and tablets for some of Samsung rivals. We’ll see how that goes…
