Verizon and Motorola will soon start pushing Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean updates for a pair of two-year old Xyboard tablets. Both 8.2- and 10.1-inch models will be affected, adding an extra dose of life to these dated devices. Yup, we would expect that Project Butter enhancements introduced in Jelly Bean make these Moto-made devices faster than ever. At the same time, we doubt Xyboard users can hope for anything beyond this version of Android. To be fair, we were kinda surprised to learn about these updates; it was a year ago when these two tablets got their latest update in the form of Ice Cream Sandwich and even then we thought they won’t be moving beyond that Android version.
As for Xyboard’s international counterparts going by the name of Xoom 2 and Xoom 2 Media Edition, we doubt these two will follow suit. Rather, owners of these two tablets will have to rely on custom ROMs to get Jelly Bean goodies.
Both Xyboard 8.2 and Xyboard 10.1 rock TI’s OMAP 4430 dual-core chip and 1GB of RAM, as well as dual-cameras, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS and other “standard for Android” hardware.
