HTC In NYC: Upload a Photo to Win a 24k Gold HTC One

HTC has taken its flagship device, the HTC One to New York City’s Times Square. The company’s latest marketing stunt is an interactive billboard featuring pictures sent in by folks participating in the event. The whole thing centered around a contest to win a free 24 karat gold-plated HTC One!

HTC revealed a model of the One recently that features a gold-colored casing. But this is the real deal, an HTC One covered in real 24 karat gold! The handset is valued at over $2,500. But this isn’t the first real gold HTC One that the company has made. Not long ago, HTC gave out 5 18 karat gold HTC Ones as awards in Glasgow’s Music of Black Origin Festival.

HTC’s been putting a lot more into marketing in recent months, after its HTC One failed to make a major dent against Samsung’s flagship, the Galaxy S4. Despite many reviews (including ours) calling the One the superior device, there’s no question that the GS4 has been the Android smartphone that ruled 2013.

The contest and gold smartphone promotion draw attention to a big Black Friday discount on the HTC One. On Friday or Saturday, customers can get a 32GB HTC One for only $29.99 (with contract) from Verizon and Sprint. For the entire week, the device will be marked down to only $49.99.

Folks can send in their selfies for a chance to appear in Times Square. 2 lucky winners will receive the gold devices! Photos can be submitted via HTC.com/NYC, Twitter (@HTCUSA #HTCinNYC #US) or e-mail (NYC@htc.com).
