Nexus One gets unofficial Android 4.4 KitKat build

Good ol’ XDA hackers have managed to cram the latest version of Android into the original Nexus device. Yup, despite the fact it’s released back in 2010, the Nexus One can run Android 4.4 KitKat.

The AOSP-based update was made by XDA Recognized Developer “texasice” and his team. Aside from the basic Android build, it also comes with few additional features to enhance the functionality of the ROM.

Alas, there are some problems: the new ART compiler is broken and should not be used because it causes bootloops. The graphics drivers aren’t fully working, and screenshot functionality is broken. The camera could also use some bug fixes.

The rest, however, is working perfectly and we hope that the glitches mentioned above will be fixed in due course.

So, if you still own the Nexus One and want to give it a new dose of life, hop over at this thread at XDA forums and take it from there.
