You may think your Nexus smartphone is perfectly secure except if you install some app from a non-trusted source. Think again.
According to security researcher Bogdan Alecu, the Galaxy Nexus, Nexus 4 and Nexus 5 all contain a vulnerability that can allow attackers to interrupt use of the phone.
It’s not that easy to stop Nexus from functioning though. In order to do any harm, an attacker would have to send around 30 flash SMS messages to a Nexus device. This sort of message [flash message] is immediately displayed on the screen and requires action. Because of the relatively high-volume, something stops working, and a Nexus device is restarted in turn. Or it can lose a data connection if messages aren’t promptly dismissed.
So it’s not like someone will be able to access your data — it’s just that he/she could prevent you from accessing the phone.
Then again, in order for this to happen, you should be really appealing victim, and the chances are – you’re not. In our daily lives we don’t receive a single flash message per day, let alone 30 in few minutes. So you/we are fine for now.
