HTC has been struggling this last year, and the company’s November numbers reflect the drama HTC has faced over that period of time. According to a report from Phone Arena, the Taiwanese smartphone manufacturer saw a 27% decrease in year-over-year revenues. HTC posted $522 million in revenues for November, and $6.5 billion for the first 11 months of 2013.
For Q4 2013, HTC is projecting the shipment of 5.2 million handsets, which results in a 16.2% drop in shipments from the previous year. Even with the release of the HTC One, HTC has faced a declining market share in the U.S. and Europe. The recently released HTC One Max phablet is doing surprisingly well, and could help HTC out in Q4 of 2013.
HTC’s huge advertising campaign starring Robert Downey Jr. appears to have done nothing for the company, as it struggles to regain traction from a slow year of sales. HTC could have a strong showing in 2014 however, with the rumored HTC M8 smartphone believed to have an early 2014 release. The M8 will go head to head with the Samsung Galaxy S5, which is rumored for a January release. The M8 could tout a Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 processor and a 5 inch 1080p display, running on Android 4.4 KitKat. The M8 is believed to have an aluminum body similar to that of the HTC One and HTC One Max. The M8 could debut with HTC’s Sense 6.0 UI, and will more than likely tout an updated BlinkFeed as well. HTC’s awesome BoomSound speakers could also make their way to the M8, making the next HTC flagship phone a stong contender in next year’s sea of smartphones.
