Southwest Airlines is launching a neat and rather affordable service for iPhone and iPad users. For just $2 per day, you get to keep chatting with your iMessage buddies even while you’re off the ground.
Any Apple user that has iOS 5 or higher with the iMessage feature pre-loaded is good to go. We would like to see other apps added to the mix, but I guess that will have to wait for next year (or so we hope).
Southwest’s blog post also mentions Android users, adding that they will be served in a similar fashion in early 2014.
We like to see airline adopting mobile technology but we don’t like these kinds of limitations. I do understand that the idea is to conserve bandwidth, but different folks use different apps, and forcing them to use iMessage over other options is kinda unfair. Or so I think, what do you say?
