24-Carat Gold-Plated Xbox One Is Affordably Priced at $10,000

Just in case you thought $500 wasn’t enough for the brand spanking new Xbox One, a 24-carat gold-plated version of Microsoft’s new console has popped up at U.K. retailer Harrods for a cool £6,000, or $9785.40. Not bad, right? Maybe if you’re Jeff Bezos or Mark Zuckerberg.

Gold devices have certainly been all the rage this year, with many gold-colored and gold-plated mobile devices showing up in 2013. Apple’s iPhone 5s debuted in three colors, one of them being gold or “Champagne” in Apple’s words. A gold-colored HTC One appeared in Finland a few weeks ago, and Samsung’s Galaxy Gear also comes in a gold color.

The Xbox One has been selling like hotcakes, with retailers struggling to stock the console on their shelves. Some retailers have the console on back order, with units slated to arrive in early January.

The 24-carat gold-plated Xbox One has the same innards of the normal black box, just covered in glorious 24-carat gold. Wonder if it comes with an Xbox Live Gold Membership? I kid. We’re not sure if the golden Xbox One comes with a blinged out Kinect and controller as the normal consoles do, like that matters to those who can afford the shiniest Xbox One in existence.

Why put a down payment on a house or save up for your kid’s college fund when you could spend ten grand on a blinged out video game console? Makes perfect sense to me. Can I buy that with Bitcoin?
