New iPhone OS 3.0 beta hints at ‘Find My iPhone’ MobileMe app

findmyiphone-mobileme-iphone-os-30With the release of the latest iPhone OS 3.0 beta 4, we’re getting confirmation that Apple will be building out a new MobileMe web-app to support the “Find My iPhone” location-tracking feature in the upcoming iPhone 3.0 OS. The “Find My iPhone” feature hasn’t yet been announced by Apple, but there’s little doubt that the next major iPhone OS update will allow iPhone users to track the location of their handset through MobileMe.

The latest iPhone OS 3.0 beta indicates that the “Find My iPhone” feature will be tied to a web-app in MobileMe. Using cell-tower triangulation and GPS coordinates, “Find My iPhone”  can track the iPhone’s physical location in real-time and will presumably pin-point that data in MobileMe.

We don’t have much else to go on here, but we’re expecting Apple to introduce the iPhone geo-tracking feature alongside the iPhone OS 3.0’s official launch.
