The long–time rumored Huawei Ascend Mate 2 has been officially announced at CES. Just like we’ve told you, it kept the big, 6.1-inch 720p HD screen rather than sporting the one with full HD resolution. It does add 4G LTE-Advanced connectivity to the mix (for 150Mbps downloads), along with a faster 1.6GHz quad-core processor and 13-megapixel camera with f/2.0 lens for excellent low-light shots. There’s also 2GB of RAM, 5-megapixel front-facing camera that supports “Panoramic Selfies,” and a huge 4,050mAh battery which allows the Mate 2 to charge other devices. Pretty cool, I would say.

Software wise, users will get Android 4.3 out of box with Huawei’s own Emotion 2.0 singing on top. The custom software that allows for one-handed use comes included, which is fairly important with a device this big.

Finally, we’re not sure when the Ascend Mate 2 will be released. All we know is that it’s coming “later this year,” with the Chinese firm likely pitching major carriers as we speak. So we’ll get back to you as soon as we have new details to add. Stay tuned in the meantime.
