As if Sony’s announcement that its sold 4.2 million PS4 consoles in 2013 wasn’t exciting enough, it just announced Playstation Now. Previously named Gaikai, Playstation Now offers up a cloud gaming service that can be streamed to a wide array of devices. Playstation Now will stream games to PS4, PS3, PS Vita, tablets, smartphones and televisions, ensuring that you’ll be able to get your game on a ton of different devices out of the box.

Given that this was just the official announcement of Playstation Now, details are still a bit sketchy. Pricing and exact availability dates have yet to be announced, but Sony plans to launch a closed beta of the service at the end of this month in the US, with a larger roll out at the end of the summer.

Here are some of the key features of Playstation Now:

  • Play video games instantly across multiple devices, similar to the way you might stream TV, movies, and music.
  • Stream full games to all of your compatible PlayStation devices including PS4, PS3, and PlayStation Vita as well as non-PlayStation devices, beginning with 2014 BRAVIA TV models and expanding to numerous other Internet-connected devices.
  • Always play the most updated version of your game. With games hosted in the cloud, you can take your game with you – just log in with your Sony Entertainment Network account on a compatible device and your games and saved progress will be easily available.
The new services will allow users to rent games and play to their heart’s content, and Sony will also offer up a subscription to offer up even more titles.
