Aside from those smart TVs, Hisense also had a big smartphone on display at CES. The phablet marked as X1 is one huge device that (size-wise) reminds us on ASUS Fonepad. It comes with a super-big 6.8-inch full HD screen, pretty much requiring a bag to be carried around.

The good thing is that it’s a power-house under the hood, rocking Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 800 quad-core chip, 13-megapixel camera on the back and a 3,900mAh battery. Android 4.4 KitKat will run the show once the X1 launches in the U.S. this summer; before that, the device will start selling in China.

On the downside though, the Hisense X1 feels dirt cheap with its plastic body failing to impress the Engadget folks. Then again, the Chinese firm intentionally made it like this so it can offer it for next to nothing (considering the underlying specs).

In addition, Hisense’s baby doesn’t come with LTE connectivity support and is rather stuck to HSPA+ speeds. Perhaps an LTE model launches at a later date, perhaps not. In any case, we’re looking forward to increased competition that will eventually push the prices south. 😉
