Sprint is expanding the reach of its push-to-talk network to include the popular Android smartphones. Under the newly announced scheme, users of the select devices can join the “Direct Connect party,” including those owning Samsung Galaxy S4, Samsung Galaxy Note 3, LG G2, LG G Flex, LG Optimus F3 and Kyocera Hydro Edge. The list, of course, won’t stop there with more phones getting the same treat soon, such as Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy Mega and Galaxy S4 with Sprint Spark.

In order to benefit from Direct Connect, Android users should download a free app called Sprint Direct Connect Now. The service comes free with a number of (pricier) plans, whereas those on a budget plans will have to pay an additional $5 per month.

Now Network’s press release also talks about the Sprint Direct Connect Now app features, which include new “enhanced” user experience, interoperability with Sprint Direct Connect devices, touchscreen controls, TeamDC and Opt-In TeamDC closed group calling, call alerts to notify others you want to talk without interrupting, contact syncing with phone’s address book, and the ability to create favorites for most popular Direct Connect contacts.
