Former Palm senior director Jonathan Oakes’ LinkedIn profile shows that he’s now an HP employee. As a matter of fact he jumped to HP’s Emerging Businesses Unit, which deals with iPAQ smartphones and general mobile business and custom PC software.
Expectantly HP declined to comment why they need Jonathan, but the rumor says he’ll help the company revive its smartphone business. And while we’ve no clue how this will translate in real-life, we can only hope HP will go beyond Windows Mobile to embrace other mobile platforms.
Android instantly comes to mind — and we hope to see what HP can do with it on its netbooks — but it’s also worth noting that the computer maker is a Symbian Foundation member. Maybe they just wanted to bring support for their printers to the platform, but you never know. We’ll certainly watch closely and keep you guys and gals well informed…
